WarmSpan Roofing Systems

Nov 18, 2016

Watertight Systems was recently involved in the launch of Viking Roofspec’s new WarmSpan warm roof product, installing one of the first WarmSpan roofing systems in Wanaka. Check out the timelapse video below.

About WarmSpan Roofing Systems

Viking WarmSpan is a warm roof-on-steel tray system made up of a wide-spanning steel tray roof deck, which also forms the vapour barrier with its flashing system.

The Kingspan Polyisocyanurate (PIR) rigid insulation panels are adhered over top and the system is completed with any of Viking Roofspec’s sheet waterproofing membrane systems.

Viking WarmSpan system is a simple yet effective, energy efficient, three-layer system avoiding the use unnecessary components, it does not require a cover board and extra vapour barrier as used in other warm roof systems.

WarmSpan Is A Cost Effective Solution For Various Reasons

  • Significant savings in materials used for the substrate compared to traditional warm roofs (e.g. timber, vapour barrier);
  • Spanning capability of Viking’s Metcom 7 steel profile (up to 2.2m between purlins in QLDC Region and 3.6m in other areas) means less framing is required;
  • and As well as these material savings, the significant labour savings achieved by not having to install these extra materials.

Other Benefits Of WarmSpan

  • Less weight than a traditional warm roof – e.g. loading on building reduced by 2/3 over timber;
  • Highest R Value – maximum ROI;
  • Polyiso sheets: 25mm, 50mm, 75mm thick, 1.2m wide x 2.27m long (75mm Minimum requirement for QLDC Region);
  • Highest possible fire rating – Group 1S Fire Rating from the ISO9705 ‘room test’;
  • Exceeds the ‘Extra High’ wind rating and foot traffic requirements of the building code for an ‘unrestricted access’ roof;
  • No Mechanical fasteners required;
  • Intergraded Vapour barrier;
  • CAD drawings and details available.

Maintenance Tips

#1 Get an annual inspection!
Did you know that most Membrane Roof Product Warranties are only valid if a maintenance program is carried out by a Registered Applicator?

It’s also a great way to prevent problems with blockages etc and increase the lifespan of the membrane roof.

Just because you can’t see a membrane roof doesn’t mean it should be ignored! It needs to be maintained like all other aspects of your property.
